These are links to brochures that describe the how and why of preparation for flood management in the following areas:

  1. Knowing your Flood Hazard
  2. Insuring your Property
  3. Protecting People from the Hazard
  4. Protecting your Property from the Hazard
  5. Building Responsibly
  6. Protecting Natural Floodplain Functions

The following linked brochures cover these topics. The numbers after the title correspond with the topic(s) that the brochure receives credit toward.

As you can see from the information provided by the above links, there are a number of steps individuals and families can take to better prepare for flooding and other emergencies and to reduce their risks. Gathering supplies in case of a storm, strengthening your home against damage, and reviewing your insurance coverage are just three of these. Also remember to have a family evacuation plan, put an emergency kit together, and keep important papers and valuables in a safe, dry place.

Being aware and informed is another important step. The chart below shows the present conditions of the water level plots from the Stevens Flood Advisory System for the Shrewsbuy River at the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge. The full page of information from the Urban Ocean Observatory at Davidson Laboratory is available HERE.
